The Role:
The Payroll Specialist at Bruni and Campisi is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees, ensuring strict compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws and company policies. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while providing excellent customer service to all employees.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Payroll Processing: Process accurate and timely weekly payroll for a workforce that includes both hourly in multiple states (New York and New Jersey).
- Data Management: Collect, maintain, and input all employee information, including working hours, tax elections (W-4s), direct deposit details, pay rates, and benefits deductions into the payroll system (experience with systems like ADP).
- Calculate Bonuses and commissions when applicable.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure correct processing of employee taxes, benefits, and wage garnishments. Prepare and submit required payroll reports for management and external agencies as needed.
- Employee Support: Respond to employee inquiries and concerns regarding paychecks, deductions, and time off accruals in a professional and timely manner.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Human Resources and Benefits departments to ensure seamless integration of new hires, terminations, and status changes.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes for greater efficiency and accuracy
Qualifications:
- Experience: 1-2+ years of experience in payroll processing, including experience with garnishments and payroll taxes.
- Knowledge: Solid understanding of federal, state (NY and NJ), and local regulations and compliance requirements related to payroll.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in payroll software (ADP Workforce Now) and integrated accounting systems. Strong data entry skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional accuracy in data entry and commitment to detail to ensure error-free payroll execution.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve payroll discrepancies and issues efficiently.
- Work Environment: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks and deadlines, occasionally under pressure.
